Know Before You Go

Singapore is a dynamic city-state known for its stunning skyline, world-class attractions, and vibrant mix of cultures. Whether you're exploring lush gardens, indulging in delicious street food, or experiencing the city's rich history, Singapore offers something for every traveller. To make the most of your visit, here’s what you need to know before you go.

 1.    Language
The official languages of Singapore are English, Malay, Mandarin, and Tamil. English is widely spoken and is the main language.

 2.    Time Zone
From October which is when daylight saving time begins in Australia, Singapore is two (2) hours behind Sydney and Melbourne and one (1) hour behind Brisbane.

3.    Getting Around
Singapore has excellent public transport system, including the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) trains, buses, and taxis. The MRT is fast, efficient, and affordable, making it the most popular way to get around. You can purchase an EZ-Link card or a Singapore Tourist Pass for unlimited rides on public transport. Taxis are also readily available.

Getting around Sentosa Island

Sentosa is Asia’s leading leisure destination and Singapore’s premier island resort getaway, located within 15 minutes from the central shopping districts. The 500-hectare island resort is also within east access of everything.

To travel from W Singapore - Sentosa Cove to the mainland, catch Bus 97 or 97E from the nearby bus stop. These buses will take you to the HarbourFront MRT Station, connecting you to the mainland's public transport network.

There is also a free W Singapore - Sentosa Cove Shuttle Bus to Vivo City. From here you can go on the MRT to one of the popular districts.

If you are looking to get out and about yourself, here are some popular districts in Singapore you might like to visit:

·      Orchard Road – Famous for shopping, luxury boutiques, and malls, making it a retail haven.

·      Marina Bay – Known for iconic landmarks like the Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, and the Singapore Flyer.

·      Chinatown – A blend of history and modernity with heritage shophouses, markets, and temples.

4.    Health and Safety

As Singapore has strict laws regarding littering and public behavior, be sure to follow local rules to avoid fines.

5.    Travel Insurance
It's advisable to have comprehensive travel insurance to cover unexpected medical expenses. Your policy needs to cover all overseas medical costs, including emergency treatment and medical evacuation. The Australian Government won't pay for these costs.
